Explanation of the end of Once Upon a Crime

At the end of Il Était une fois un Crime, as the soldiers take Margot away, a shard of glass slips out of her hand, inadvertently revealing to Red Riding Hood the identity of the real murderer. To her dismay, the murderer is none other than Cinderella.

In reality, Cinderella, like Hans' other victims, had been drawn into his sinister scheme. Hans had promised to turn her into a beautiful young girl. At the end of Il Était une fois un Crime, Hans' true intentions are revealed in his house. He tries to cut off Cinderella's hair, forcing her to kill him. Then, to escape justice, Cinderella concocts a deceptive ruse.

At the end of Il Était une fois un Crime, Cinderella's cunning plan takes a tragic turn when she inadvertently hits Margot with her glass sandals, causing one of the heels to shatter.

After hearing the whole story, Prince Gilbert orders his men to arrest Cinderella. However, just as the story seems to have reached its climax, another unexpected twist occurs. At the end of Il Était une fois un Crime, Gilbert's long-lost love Rémi suddenly reveals himself.

She was the prince's alibi when he was convicted of murder. Gilbert takes Rémi in his arms, vowing never to let her go again. At the end of Il Était une fois un Crime, Prince Gilbert, now married to Princess Rémi, bids farewell to Red Riding Hood.
