Google announces new features focused on generative AI in India
Google announced several tools focused on generative AI at its Google for India event. Features include visual results such as images and videos, as well as information on government programs.
Government program summaries
In the coming weeks, users will be able to obtain summaries of over 100 government programs in India, according to Google. This feature will provide users with information in both Hindi and English.
Generative research experiments
The search giant said it was making Generative Search Experiments (GSEs) in India more localized and visualized by displaying images and videos in the results. For example, if someone searches for "How to drape a saree", they'll get step-by-step instructions for different draping styles. What's more, the results will also include a video.
Local exploration with user reviews
The company said that when searching for local information such as things to do in a city you're visiting, the Generative Search Experience (GSE) will also display useful user reviews. For example, if you search for "Is Jaipur Fort wheelchair accessible?", the result generated by the generative AI-powered search will display related user reviews.
Wheelchair access on Google Maps
It's worth noting that Google Maps already shows wheelchair-accessible places and businesses on the app. Recently, the company also launched directions for wheelchair-accessible shopping itineraries on Maps.
Extending the generative research experience
In August, Google extended the Generative Search Experience (GSE) to India, with a button allowing users to switch from Hindi to English without leaving the results page. At the time, the company said that ads would appear in dedicated slots in search results powered by generative AI.
