Discover the incredible new OpenAI features announced by Greg Brockman, for some mysterious reason!

OpenAI makes voice narration available to all ChatGPT users

Former OpenAI president Greg Brockman posts updates on OpenAI products on X, including today's update on ChatGPT's voice narration feature, now available to all users.

Perhaps Brockman is simply expressing his pride in the work of his colleagues. Maybe the job offer from Microsoft didn't materialize. Maybe negotiations with the OpenAI board to reinstate him and Sam Altman - who was CEO of OpenAI until Friday, when the board abruptly fired him - are further along than reported. (Brockman resigned Friday evening in protest.) Who knows? At this stage in OpenAI's chaotic saga, anything is possible.

OpenAI's existential crises aside, the voice function for ChatGPT - announced in September and available for a few weeks now to premium subscribers of ChatGPT, OpenAI's AI-powered chatbot - is powered by a text-to-speech model capable of generating human-like voices from text and a few seconds of speech samples. OpenAI collaborated with well-known voice actors to create five different voices, with its open source Whisper speech recognition system used to transcribe verbal utterances into text.

To activate the voice function, users can go to the settings menu of the ChatGPT apps for Android or iOS and press the "headphones" icon.
