Discover the incredible artificial intelligence features powered by Google Gemini on the all-new Samsung Galaxy S24!

Gemini, Google's cutting-edge generative AI model, arrives on Samsung's new flagship smartphone - the Galaxy S24

Google and Samsung have announced the arrival of Gemini on the Galaxy S24 to coincide with the unveiling of the Galaxy S24 this afternoon.

Gemini on the Galaxy S24: enhanced summary functions

On Galaxy S24 phones, Gemini - in particular Gemini Pro, a mid-range model designed for a variety of tasks - will power certain features of Samsung's Notes, Voice Recorder and Keyboard applications, offering what Google describes as "enhanced summary features". For example, users will be able to record a lecture using Voice Recorder and obtain a summary of the key parts of the lesson.

Gemini Nano and Magic Compose functionality

For its part, Gemini Nano - a more efficient and compact Gemini model - will enable a new feature in Google Messages, Magic Compose, which will be able to write messages in styles such as "excited", "formal" and "lyrical" on the device, without the need for an Internet connection.

Galaxy S24: the second Android device to feature a Gemini Nano model

Interestingly, the Galaxy S24 is only the second Android device to run a Gemini Nano model after Google's Pixel 8 Pro. On the Pixel 8 Pro, Nano powers features such as an AI summary in the Recorder app and suggested answers in Google's Gboard keyboard app.

Google Imagen 2 and photo editing features

In addition to Gemini, the Galaxy S24 will benefit from Google's Imagen 2 text-image model, which will serve as the basis for photo editing functionalities in the Galaxy S24's Gallery application. One of these features, Generative Edit, can automatically fill in parts of images based on the surrounding context.

Galaxy S24 as Gemini Ultra test partner

Google also said that Samsung would be one of the first partners to test Gemini Ultra, the largest and most powerful Gemini model, before its general availability to developers and enterprises later this year. However, neither company has specified exactly how Ultra might be used on the Galaxy S24 or other Samsung devices.

Google Assistant and Bard

Late last year, Google announced that Android users would be able to access Gemini via Bard, and that Google Assistant, Google's intelligent assistant, would be integrated with Bard on Pixel devices. Whether Galaxy S24 users will be able to benefit from the same enhancements to Assistant and Bard remains to be seen; hopefully we'll learn more at today's Galaxy S24 press conference.
