Adobe announces the availability of its Firefly AI model
After 176 days in beta, Adobe has announced that its AI Firefly model is now available in Creative Cloud, Adobe Express and Adobe Experience Cloud. This means that features such as generative fill and generative expansion in Photoshop are now accessible without having to install the beta version. In addition, the company is also launching Firefly as a stand-alone web application, giving what was previously a demo an official status within the Adobe product portfolio.
New pricing model
In addition to this announcement, Adobe is also unveiling its pricing model for Firefly. The company will use what it calls "generative credits" to measure user interaction with these templates. Every time you click "generate" to create a Firefly image, you consume a credit. Adobe has also modified the Firefly web application so that it does not automatically generate images until you have made all the desired changes.
Generative credits for all paying users
All users of Adobe paid plans will have access to a certain number of generative credits. Here's the full list:
- Creative Cloud All applications : 1 000
- Creative Cloud A single application (includes Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, AfterEffects, Audition, Animate, Dreamweaver, Stock, Photography 1TB) : 500
- Adobe Stock paid subscription : 500
- Adobe Express Premium : 250
- Adobe Firefly Premium : 100
- Creative Cloud for Business All : 1 000
- Creative Cloud Pro Plus All applications : 3 000
- Free users with an Adobe ID; Adobe Express, Adobe Firefly, Creative Cloud : 25
Once you've used up these credits, you won't lose access to Firefly, but the service will run much more slowly. Users who subscribe to Adobe Firefly and Adobe Express Premium will only have access to two generations per day until their account is reset at the end of the month. Adobe will also offer additional subscription packages for these users. However, Adobe has not yet published specific prices for these plans.
User base protection
Alexandru Costin, Vice President of Generative AI and Sensei at Adobe, explains that these models are very large and expensive to run in the cloud. As a result, Adobe wants to protect its user base to ensure fair access to the service. The team considered a token-based system, but early testers found this too difficult to explain to customers.
Firefly: a safe tool for businesses
Adobe reports that its users have already generated over 2 billion images with Firefly. Costin emphasizes that the templates have been trained primarily with images from the Adobe Stock collection, guaranteeing their commercial security for businesses. As recently announced, Adobe also guarantees compensation to its business users in the event of any disputes arising from the use of Firefly-generated images.
