With around 90% of enterprise data unstructured, and organizations only using less than 1% of that data to make decisions, it's clear that businesses are facing a huge unstructured data problem.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Arteria_AI_une_approche_centree_sur_les_donnees\"><\/span>Arteria AI: a data-centric approach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Against this backdrop, Arteria AI is taking a data-centric approach to solving this problem, focusing on institutional finance contracts.<\/p>\n<p>Before setting up Arteria AI, co-founders Shelby Austin, Abrar Huq and Jonathan Wong worked together at Deloitte Canada, where they were responsible for data, analytics and AI. Austin, who also has a legal background, told Toukiela that manually searching through hundreds of pages of documentation to find a key piece of data is not a new problem. However, technology was only recently sophisticated enough to solve it.<\/p>\n<p>\"Our big idea was to revolutionize the financial services industry, which has hundreds of trillions in assets and will spend around $20 trillion on its technological transformation,\" said CEO Austin. \"We've been thinking about how to use technologies like AI to solve this massive problem for large companies. In our case, we were particularly drawn to the banking sector, because despite the fact that these are large, complex and remarkable organizations, many things require real functional expertise to achieve their goals.\"<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Le_fonctionnement_dArteria_AI\"><\/span>How Arteria AI works<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This Toronto-based company has assembled a team of experts, technologists, scientists and lawyers. It was launched in 2020 and develops a data-centric approach to modern documentation infrastructure. Arteria AI targets global financial institutions and how they can transform large-scale manual processes.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the company's platform structures data at the point of contract drafting. When documentation is added, an intelligent workflow speeds up approvals, negotiations and decision-making. At the same time, an analysis layer provides information on, for example, bottlenecks in the process, the number of changes made to a particular section, or how to improve the process for the next contract.<\/p>\n<p>Last year was a period of \"strong customer acquisition growth\" for Arteria AI, according to Austin. The company secured some of its biggest customers, including Goldman Sachs and Citi. As a result, the company's recurring sales tripled over the same period, said Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Arteria AI announces that it has raised $30 million in a Series B financing round led by GGV Capital U.S., with participation from all major existing investors, including Illuminate Financial, Information Venture Partners, BDC Capital and Citi. This brings Arteria AI's total funding to date to $50 million.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Resoudre_le_probleme_des_donnees_non_structurees\"><\/span>Solving the problem of unstructured data<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Chelcie Taylor, investor at GGV, said in an interview that Arteria AI's banking and financial institution-focused approach tackles the problem of unstructured data in a different way to other players in the sector, who traditionally do so through a legal function.<\/p>\n<p>\"Arteria realizes that, while the legal function is critical, there are also other business units, including asset management operations, trading operations, derivatives operations and commodities operations, that have not had the opportunity to understand and use their data in a robust, digital way,\" said Taylor.<\/p>\n<p>What's more, the company \"uses AI very effectively\", Taylor added.<\/p>\n<p>\"In some of these contracts, particularly in trading for example, there may be a dollar amount that's in a tiny corner, on page 92 on the left-hand side, but that's the most important and crucial information,\" she added. \"Traditionally, it was the job of a human being to verify this. Arteria's AI technology can immediately identify and tell that this is priority information.\"<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Continuer_a_etre_agile\"><\/span>Continuing to be agile<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, the company plans to use the funds to strengthen its go-to-market activities and develop its AI technology in financial services. Arteria AI continues to be nimble with fewer than 100 employees; however, Austin said plans were to double headcount this year.<\/p>\n<p>This has already happened within the management team: in the last four months, Arteria AI has recruited John Wallace as CFO, Bailey Dougherty as Global Head of Professional Services, and Larry Lawrence and Donna Mansfield to lead growth.<\/p>\n<p>\"We're also investing in research to create highly relevant models for our customers,\" said Austin. \"We're starting to find that we're in demand across the bank.
