best outfit, giving advice on a problem you're having, or recommending movies or shows to watch, among others. For these kinds of questions, users still turn to other people - and online, that means using platforms like Reddit or Quora to get answers from other humans, not AI. Now, a mobile app called Superfy is looking to use AI to better connect its users to other people to get answers to these kinds of questions in a new live chat experience.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Une_technologie_dIA_proprietaire\"><\/span>Proprietary AI technology<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Initially conceived as a kind of \"Quora doped\", Tel Aviv-based Superfy was launched in 2021 by married couple Michal Tamir and Gil Schoenberg, who previously worked together at Treato, an Israeli data analytics company. They envisioned a way to use AI technology to connect users in real time with relevant people to answer their questions - i.e., Superfy users could talk to real people instead of typing questions into a search engine or chatting with ChatGPT for answers and advice.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Un_systeme_base_sur_lIA\"><\/span>An AI-based system<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The system uses a fully proprietary AI technology, Matchpoint AI, which relies on open source LLMs (linear language models) to enable matches. Its machine learning algorithms and AI models match users based on a variety of factors, including who is online at the moment, whether they typically use the app at a certain time of day, whether they often answer questions, and whether they have expertise relevant to the specific query. For example, if someone asks \"Should I buy an Ibanez guitar or a Gibson guitar?\", the AI will try to connect them with a user who knows instruments and music. But for queries asking for recommendations, the AI will match users based on the personal relevance of the answer to the user who posted the question.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Un_apprentissage_continu\"><\/span>Continuous learning<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The system uses an auto-generated dynamic database that identifies patterns in user discussions, instead of using conventional natural language processing (NLP) methods and pre-indexed dictionaries, the company explains. Over time, the engine learns from users' behaviors, interests, knowledge and usage patterns to relate them more relevantly to queries. The new LLM-based Matchpoint AI also takes into account users' subject-related understanding and shared interests, as well as \"personal chemistry\" when matching.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Une_reponse_rapide_des_personnes_reelles\"><\/span>Rapid response from real people<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The startup claims that only 10% of messages are niche questions that aren't answered quickly enough by real people. In these cases, Superfy's bot will offer an automatic response while users wait for human answers. According to Superfy's founders, the median time to get the first response from a real person is around 20 seconds.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Une_application_en_pleine_expansion\"><\/span>A fast-growing application<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Although only available on iOS, Superfy claims 550,000 registered users and 85,000 monthly active users who use its app - mainly a young Generation Z audience based in the USA, Canada and the UK. Eventually, however, they plan to expand Superfy to reach a wider audience than just Generation Z.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Une_evolution_vers_des_conversations_significatives\"><\/span>An evolution towards meaningful conversations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In the months since its launch, the app has evolved from an easy way to get questions answered quickly, like a live Quora, to a place where users can have meaningful conversations with relevant people, the founders said. What's more, unlike sites like Quora and Reddit where only a small percentage of users contribute content, around 85% of Superfy users actively engage with the app by asking or answering questions. This is due to the app's chat interface, which creates a more personal experience, AI matching and its accuracy in matching the right people, Tamir and Schoenberg told us.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Une_experience_subjective_et_engageante\"><\/span>A subjective and engaging experience<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This experience leads to more subjective responses, where users contribute their own ideas, advice, recommendations and support, not necessarily the \"right\" answer that AI chatbots seek to produce. This also leads to an increase in time spent in the app - average time spent is now 31 minutes per day, with users participating in several chats and sessions per day, of around 160 seconds per session on an average of 16 chats per day. In total, users send more than 10.5 million messages per month, the founders said.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Poursuite_du_travail_malgre_la_situation\"><\/span>Continued work despite the situation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As for the future of Superfy, the team said it was trying to continue working despite the situation in Israel. The app is backed by $5 million in funding as well as $1.5 million in grants from the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA).
