Based on Imagen 2, an image model developed by Google's DeepMind team, ImageFX offers a prompt-based user interface for creating and editing images. It's not unlike tools such as OpenAI's DALL-E 3, Midjourney, Meta's Imagine with Meta AI and Microsoft Designer. But what sets ImageFX apart are its \"expressive chips\" - essentially a list of suggested keywords that allow users to experiment with the \"adjacent dimensions\" of their creations and ideas.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prevention_des_abus\"><\/span>Abuse prevention<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the question of potential abuse does arise, particularly in the light of recent events. Google claims to have taken steps to ensure that ImageFX cannot be used unintentionally, for example by adding \"technical safeguards\" to limit problematic content such as violent, offensive and sexually explicit content. ImageFX also features a prompt-level filter for \"named persons\", presumably public figures, although Google is not very clear about this in its press materials.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Google claims to have invested in drive data security from the outset, and to have carried out extensive adversarial testing to identify and mitigate potentially harmful and problematic content. In addition, Google is adding image tagging produced with ImageFX with SynthID, a digital watermark said to be resistant to image editing and cropping.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Imagen_2_etendu\"><\/span>Imagen 2 extended<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Google is announcing the extension of Imagen 2 to more of its products and services, starting with its next-generation AI search experience and its range of managed AI services, Vertex AI. Imagen 2, which also powers the text-to-image capabilities in Google Ads and Duet AI in Workspace, Google's GenAI suite of productivity products, is now integrated with Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE). SGE, which began offering image generation tools to Google Image Search users last October, now uses Imagen 2 to generate images. Users can enter a description specifying the type of image they want, and SGE will return four results directly into the SGE conversational experience.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In addition, Imagen 2 is available via an API for Google Cloud customers in Vertex AI. In addition, Imagen 2 is now accessible via Bard, Google's AI-powered chatbot.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Google_reste_prudente\"><\/span>Google remains cautious<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Google has yet to reveal the data used to train Imagen 2, which, while disappointing, is not surprising. It's an open legal question whether AI providers like Google can train a model on publicly available, or even copyrighted, data and then market it.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Relevant legal proceedings are underway, with suppliers arguing that they are protected by the principle of fair use.
